EAT THE SUN

CASTING FEATURE FILM EAT THE SUN
EAT THE SUN is a narrative feature film set in our modern ecological reality and it follows two siblings as they return “home” to haunting absences. Everything around is now drained, depleted, alien. With buried secrets, sticky memories and old roles, they attempt to pack up. As their unsettling conditions persist, the closer they get to each other, the more entangled they become. Risking not only the task at hand, but the very possibility of family. The film’s striking, palpable atmosphere, though inflected by a visceral presence and strange disorientation, is entirely informed by research.

Logline: Manuel and Ida’s father died two years ago. Now debt and obligation call them back to his house with a seemingly straightforward task: pack up and move out for good. But as the siblings arrive in the arid, unincorporated town in the Southwest, they’re confronted with much more than an empty house.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

[IDA]: Female, Latino. Ages 25-35. The impulsive younger sister to MANUEL. A free and curious spirit, an artist making endless sacrifices in the name of a so-called dream. Unpredictable and defiant, she often thrusts herself at life without thinking - but don’t mistake her openness for weakness. For Ida, leaving home means losing something unrecoverable. Despite moving much further away to a big city, striving for a life that looks nothing like this place, she fears this final relic of her father vanishing. Uncertain of a connection to her brother without it. She’s stubborn and probes as fiercely as Manuel resists. Speaks English fluently with an American accent. Fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required. LEAD.

[MANUEL]: Male, Latino. Ages 30-40. Pragmatic older brother to IDA. A man as impenetrable as stone, though the hardness is a mask he’s perfected. The type to sacrifice real connection for fear of what it will require of him. For Manuel, the past is the past. Conflicted by his father’s choices, whose consequences extend beyond his death, he finds control by refusing to engage in any of it. His quiet intensity suggests much more beneath his hardened exterior. He projects a kind of physical and emotional toughness and strength in order to avoid a wounded, grieving interior. Speaks English fluently with an American accent. Fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required. LEAD.
