Casting short film SAFE IN MY SKIN

We are casting LEAD and SUPPORTING roles in an upcoming short film shooting in upstate (Aug 21-23) and in NYC (Oct 10-12). No acting experience necessary.

Compensation: Mikey Liu : $250/day , Shaun : $200/day

Casting:
[MIKEY LIU]: Male, ages 18-26, Chinese American. Skateboarder. A reserved daydreamer. Sensitive but resilient. He has never felt comfortable displaying vulnerability. Has grown up as one of the only Asian kids in a small upstate NY town and has always felt like an outsider. Feelings of guilt and shame fester within him due to the complex and fraught relationship he has with his childhood best friend Shaun. *Must speak Mandarin* *Must be comfortable riding a skateboard*
Drugs & Alcohol: This role involves actions simulating drug taking (smoking a joint, snorting crushed pills) as well as consuming alcohol.
Intimacy: There is a scene where the character of Mikey Liu is in bed with his girlfriend and kisses her on the cheek. Actions can be somewhat adjusted depending on talent's comfort.LEAD.

[SHAUN]: Male, ages 18-22, Caucasian. Skateboarder. Construction worker. Outgoing teen who loves to be the center of attention. He’s also deeply insecure, but overcompensates by acting like a tough guy. He’s too proud to show affection despite deeply caring about his best friend, Mikey and he often feels the need to dominate him. After high school he remains in the small town he grew up in. He can’t seem to move past his regrets or the feeling that he was left behind by his friends. *Must be comfortable riding a skateboard or familiar with skating culture* SUPPORTING ROLE

Synopsis:
Mikey Liu returns to the small town he grew up in for a childhood friends’ funeral. There, memories are unlocked, painting a complicated portrait of male friendship and American identity.
