CASTING ‘BIRTH’ SHORT FILM BY BAFTA WINNING DIRECTOR
BIRTH is a self-portrait film about the requirements of young black future athletes in a dystopian world.
Directed by BAFTA-winning director Savanah Leaf, who’s debut feature length film, EARTH MAMA premiered at Sundance '23 to great acclaim, opened New Directors New Films '23 and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.
Film will be on view at an upcoming art exhibition.

Roles:
NIA (30-40’s), Black, woman. Mother of a 6-month old baby. Grounded, expressive. Has been through a lot and carries the weight of her experiences. Perhaps she has unique scars or birthmarks (but not necessary). * If talent has a baby (6 months+) in real life, we’d love to consider them together if they are open to it. Talent should feel comfortable wearing minimal clothing. NON-UNION.
AUDRE [BABY] (6-12 months, but should read small or closer to 6 months) Black or mixed race (half Black), baby girl. Possesses a special spark. Ideally has freckles but not necessary. *Must be at least 6 months old. NON-UNION.
MOTHERS & THEIR BABY. BIPOC, women, (20-40’s). Real mothers and their babies (6 months+). Athletic, grounded, expressive. Mothers who have been through a lot and carry the weight of their experiences. *We are looking to ideally cast real mothers and their baby’s (6 months +) for this role. Mothers should feel comfortable wearing minimal clothing. NON-UNION.
AUDRE [TODDLER] (2-5 years old), Black or mixed race (half Black), girl. Possesses a special spark. Ideally has freckles but not necessary. Athletic toddler. Has just learned to run and is already fast. NON-UNION.
TESTING DOCTOR (40-65 years old), white man. Has an expressive face that has lived. Works in a Sports Performance Testing facility. He’s stern. Feels like he could be a coach or a doctor. He’s intimidating and has an overpowering presence. Perhaps possesses unique scars but not necessary. NON-UNION.
TODDLERS (2-5 years old). BIPOC, boys and girls. They should read on the younger side and look like they are just learning to run. NON-UNION.
